What to Do if You Get Crushed by a Nonvenomous Snake

Even though nonvenomous snakes aren't dangerous to humans, they can still cause harm if they bite or crush you. A snake's powerful muscles can squeeze the life out of you if you're not careful. If you ever find yourself crushed by a nonvenomous snake, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Stay Calm: Panicking will only make the situation worse. Try to stay calm and take deep breaths.
  2. Call for Help: If you have a phone nearby, call for help immediately. If not, try to yell for help.
  3. Try to Move: If you're able to move, try to wiggle out of the snake's grip. Don't try to pull the snake off of you, as this will only cause it to squeeze harder.
  4. Protect Your Head: If the snake is wrapped around your torso, try to protect your head and neck with your arms. If it's wrapped around your arms or legs, try to protect your head with your hands.
  5. Wait for Help: If you're unable to move or wiggle out of the snake's grip, wait for help to arrive. Don't try to fight the snake, as this will only make it more agitated.

If you're able to get out of the snake's grip, seek medical attention immediately. Even though nonvenomous snakes aren't poisonous, their bites can still cause infections or allergic reactions. It's important to clean the wound thoroughly and monitor it for any signs of infection.

To prevent snake bites in the future, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and avoid areas where snakes are known to live. If you do encounter a snake, give it plenty of space and don't try to touch it.
