Understanding Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. It is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, accounting for about 30% of all cases.
DLBCL can occur in different parts of the body, including lymph nodes, bone marrow, and organs such as the liver, spleen, and brain. When it occurs outside of the lymph nodes, it is called extranodal DLBCL.
Extranodal DLBCL
Extranodal DLBCL can occur in many different solid organ sites, including the gastrointestinal tract, skin, lung, and breast. The most common site of extranodal DLBCL is the gastrointestinal tract, which accounts for about 30% of cases.
Other common sites of extranodal DLBCL include the skin (10-20% of cases), lung (10-15% of cases), and breast (5-10% of cases). Extranodal DLBCL can also occur in the central nervous system, bone, and thyroid gland, although these sites are less common.
Symptoms of Extranodal DLBCL
The symptoms of extranodal DLBCL can vary depending on the site of the cancer. For example, if it occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. If it occurs in the skin, symptoms may include a rash or growth on the skin.
Other possible symptoms of extranodal DLBCL include fever, night sweats, weight loss, and fatigue. These symptoms are common in many types of cancer, so it is important to see a doctor if you are experiencing any of them.
Diagnosis of Extranodal DLBCL
