Other Specified Malignant Neoplasm of Skin of Left Lower Eyelid, Including Canthus

Other specified malignant neoplasm of skin of left lower eyelid, including canthus (OSMOSLLEC) is a rare form of skin cancer that affects the lower eyelid of the left eye, including the canthus or junction between the upper and lower eyelids. It is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer and is most often seen in middle-aged or elderly people. OSMOSLLEC is usually caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or other sources, such as tanning beds. If left untreated, this type of skin cancer can spread to other areas of the body and become life-threatening.

Signs and symptoms of OSMOSLLEC can vary depending on the stage of the cancer. In the early stages, symptoms may include a red or pink lump near the eyelid, a scaly patch of skin, and/or a sore that will not heal. As the cancer progresses, it can cause the affected eyelid to become swollen and discolored, and the area may become tender to the touch. In some cases, the cancer can spread to the lymph nodes in the neck, leading to additional symptoms such as a lump in the neck and difficulty swallowing.

Diagnosis of OSMOSLLEC typically begins with a full physical examination of the skin near the lower eyelid, including a biopsy of any suspicious areas. Other tests, such as imaging studies and blood tests, may also be necessary to confirm the diagnosis and determine the stage of the cancer.

OSMOSLLEC is usually treated with surgery to remove the affected area of skin. Depending on the size and location of the tumor, additional treatments such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy may also be necessary. In some cases, a combination of these treatments may be used.

If left untreated, OSMOSLLEC can spread to other areas of the body and become life-threatening. It is important to see a doctor right away if you experience any of the signs and symptoms of this type of skin cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the outlook and help prevent the cancer from spreading.
